UCMAA Board Member Position Description

LENGTH OF TERM:

Three-year term (may exceed if appointed President, Vice President, or Secretary), with the opportunity to re-apply
 

MISSION STATEMENT:

The UC Merced Alumni Association serves to:

  • Foster and maintain links between the association’s members and UC Merced;
  • Promote leadership and a spirit of citizenship among alumni;
  • Act as the main conduit for the exchange of information and ideas between the university and our alumni;
  • Aid in the advancement of the university;
  • Act as a network toward building strong foundations for our students
     

UCMAA BOARD:

The UC Merced Alumni Association Board provides opportunities for enthusiastic alumni to become more engaged with the university and to serve its needs. The board supports the strategic goals of the Alumni Office to increase alumni involvement with the university by leveraging networks and promoting engagement opportunities. Board membership is a privilege, and prospective members must complete applications to be considered.
 

MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS:

  • Must be a person who has been awarded a UC Merced degree or a person who has completed at least 24 units at UC Merced and is not in a degree-seeking program at UC Merced;

  • Must exemplify UC Merced’s mission of teaching, research and service;

  • Must attend four alumni board meetings annually, held quarterly in August, October (Homecoming), January/February and April (Bobcat Day). Meetings are three to four hours long;

  • Must cover travel and housing costs related to alumni board meetings;

  • Must be actively engaged during board meetings, providing feedback and willingly accepting tasks that are needed to complete board goals;

  • Must remain actively engaged with other alumni in your area, seeking feedback on their alumni experiences and learning about their continued alumni needs;

  • Must enjoy the alumni experience and talk openly and positively about UC Merced to others, especially the alumni community;

  • Must support the university by contributing to UC Merced on an annual basis. There is an expectation that 100 percent of the board will donate; 

  • Must encourage fellow alumni to support the university through giving, political advocacy and engagement in programs;

  • Must remain actively engaged between meetings including responding to inquiries from the Alumni Office, attending university events when possible and staying up-to-date on university news;

  • Must serve in a volunteer capacity in at least two alumni programs annually. Examples include Alumni Career Chat Employment Success Series, representing the UCMAA at alumni events, student recruitment and job/internship placement.
