Cristhian Gutierrez-Huerta
Hello everyone! I am very humbled to be nominated for the position of Vice President. I am an MD/PhD student at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. I am in my second year in school. I am also in my second year serving on the UCMAA Board of Directors. During my time in the board I have mainly focused on being an active member of the Connections & Mentoring Dream Team and have served on the Nominating Committee. Serving on the Nominating Committee is crucial as I am aware that this is one of the specific activities I will oversee as Vice President. Over the last two years, I have greatly appreciated working alongside the other board members and the UCMAA team in order to achieve the goals of the board, alumni office, and the greater alumni community. Additionally, I am passionate about education, minority academic retention, and mentorship. Therefore, I would love to continue this type of work as an E-board member.

The past two years of the pandemic has provide us with new tools for connections and new pathways towards societal change. Having served as a Board Member for two terms, I have witness the ability for our alumni to adapt in times of crisis and unite to support each other. I believe that UCMAA is currently in a pivotal position to lay a foundation for support and advocacy in which our alumni community can leverage as they work towards groundbreaking initiatives. As such, my mission as Vice President is to promote community, membership, and philanthropy within UCMAA and the alumni population. During my term, I plan to work with the Executive team, Board Members, and Alumni Relations to understand the current goals of the alumni population. In doing so, I aim to bridge together similar voices across our Bobcat network and facilitate connections between initiative leaders. Additionally, I hope to understand the current challenges faced by our current and future alumni, while working towards concrete solutions to raise awareness and address these challenges.
