Brenda Yu '19 | UCMAA Board Vice President

Why did you apply for the UC Merced Alumni Association Board of Directors?

I applied to be a Board Director on UCMAA to give back to the campus that gave so much to me. As a first generation, low-income scholar, I was able to conduct undergraduate research, impact my community through service projects, and create lasting legacies thanks to the support I received at UC Merced. Becoming a Board Director was a way for me to advocate for resources for my alma mater and to continue inspiring future Bobcats to achieve their dreams at UC Merced.

How do you balance being on the UCMAA Board with your personal and professional committees?

Google Calendar is my magic tool. As UCMAA Board meetings and signature alumni events are planned out several months in advance, I'm able to block off my schedule to ensure I'm able to fulfill my Board Director responsibilities. Most UCMAA events are in the evenings or weekends, which accommodates work schedules.
