SJV UC Alumni Network Charter

 

San Joaquin Valley University of California Alumni Network

The purposes of the organization are to:

  • Provide an opportunity for alumni to associate with each other and the university
  • Educate alumni regarding the latest developments achieved by the university
  • Involve alumni in the ongoing development of current and future students of the university
  • Promote the welfare and development of the University and of the UC Merced campus
  • Promote the development of the UC Merced Alumni Association

The Executive Board:

The Executive Board shall consist of the elected officers and the immediate past president, and committee chairs appointed by the president.

Officers

President Carolyn Vara, UC Davis

Vice President: Vacant

Secretary, Susan Mahacek, UC Davis 

Immediate Past President Gerry Schlintz, UC Berkely, UC Hastings School of Law

President: Two-year term elected from membership. Duties include:

  • Schedule meetings, notify officers and members
  • Prepare agenda for meetings
  • Preside over meetings
  • Represent the network at the Alumni Association of the University of California (AAUC) meetings
  • Establish committees as needed

Vice president: Two-year term elected from membership. Duties include:

  • Assist president and assume the duties of president as needed
  • Coordinate alumni events
  • At the end of the the two-year term, the vice president becomes president elect and he/she assumes the office of president

Secretary: Two-year term elected from membership. Duties include:

  • Keep records of all meetings and other records as needed
  • Report at meetings on the status of the group
  • Maintain the official list of members and their addresses via UC Merced
  • Distribute notices of meetings and other mailings via UC Merced
  • Maintain contact and liaison with UC Merced

Ex-officio members:

  • UC Merced/UCOP liaison: A staff member from the UC Merced Office of Alumni Relations shall sit on the Executive Board.
  • UC Merced student representative: The Office of Alumni Relations will select a UC Merced student to sit on the Executive Board.

Term of office for all officers is two fiscal years. Term of office for all ex-officio members is one fiscal year. The fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30.

The board is open to all University of California students and alumni in the San Joaquin Valley region who have completed at least 12 units at a UC campus.

Meetings:

Set by the president as needed, although regular board meetings and at least one general meeting are held each year.

Nominating Committee:

A nominating committee appointed by the Executive Board shall prepare a slate of at least one nominee for each elective office to be filled and shall present such slate to the board and the network membership at a yearly meeting. Nominations from the floor will also be taken for each office to be filled. Voting will be at a general meeting; elected board members must receive a simple majority of those voting.

Amendments:

The Executive Board or members can propose amendments to the charter, which will be accepted based on majority vote of the membership present at the general meeting.

Dissolution:

In the event of dissolution, the assets of the SJVUC shall be distributed to the UC Merced Alumni Association.
